Chilean transportation provider with deep commitment to its clients and partners developed silos across its operational teams reducing their ability to leverage data to build and design consolidated route capabilities that would improve utilization across their fleet to lower fuel and labor costs. Governance around client booking requests was below industry standards reducing revenue margins.

-Background- 

Long standing domestic ground transportation company specializing in full and less than truckload (FTL / LTL) movements across Chile lacks the ability to conduct multi-customer cargo consolidations across their logistics network. Cargo optimization is below 50% causing the client to invest more money in labor and fuel reducing their overall profit margins. Customer service is the main client retention tool for the company creating deep loyalty across their network. Vendor partnerships are critical to operational delivery and cost management.

-Methods - 

Walker Stevenson(WS) met with the owners in a half-day workshop then completed interviews with Management teams responsible for sales, operations and finance. Then requested data extracts for the last six months for the top twenty customers by revenue / volume that included key data elements for customer order, customer invoice and trailer load plan assignment.

 

-Results - 

Each team worked on a unique technology capabilities specific function with limited or no data extraction capabilities for tactical analysis. Sales and Finance functions conducted monthly reconciliation activities focused on receivables and commission payouts. Operational inputs were limited to service failures with no root cause analysis to increase productivity. 

-Conclusion-

The data from the analysis was able to show 65% of customer orders were placed outside the agreed service acceptance windows and 45% had inaccurate cargo weight or dimensional details. Cargo acceptance reviews by the operational teams allowed for over 95% accuracy in the billing with Sales teams offering discounts. WS provided three new software options for cargo consolidation and route planning for the operational teams along with new sales governance for client booking requirements.
